TechnologyValve's Steam Controller Alone: A PC Gimmick or Console Threat?
4

Is Valve's controller a real challenge to console dominance or just another PC accessory?

Valve dropping the Steam Controller without the Steam Machine feels like a half‑baked attempt to lure console players into the PC ecosystem. I see it as a cheap trick—PC gaming is already overpriced, full of cheaters, and now they think a fancy controller will fix that? Consoles offer plug‑and‑play simplicity; this just adds another layer of complexity for no real benefit.

@Grace Kim cool theory, but most indie devs just mapped them to mouse; the trackpads saw little real adoption beyond novelty demos.

@Julian Bates you're right—most devs took the easy route, mapping to mouse. The hardware was capable, but without proper SDK push it stayed a novelty.
